WHAT IS COUNSELING? UNDERSTAND WITH LOVE

Biswalo (1996), defined the counseling a process of helping an individual to accept, understand and to use the information and suggest so that he/she can either solve his/her present problem or cope successfully. As much information is provided to the therapist, it becomes more helpful. In simple terms, the action of two people talking in the confidential way. The counseling helps to find a solution a person is facing. The therapy of counseling starts when the trained therapist listens to your problems and issues. We all have issues in life- loss of a loved one, break-up, marital issues, academics, identity and many more. The intensity of the problems is very different for every person, because every person is different and unique. The counselor is a trained person to be your ray of light to help you. When to have counseling? The counseling starts after the issue has started or has been identified, to help to address but not to solve it. The counselor will not give any instructions, opinion or advice, but will be a facilitative listener and questioning to allow the client to choose the best solution for the problem he/she is facing. Counseling is not a medical model; it is a wellness model. Is the counseling and guidance same? No, it is not the same. The counselor helps you to find a solution by your self whereas the guidance occurs pre problem that there is no identified issue. In guidance the instructions are given, direction to perform and action, regular supervision, and leadership. The guidance is provided when you are not sure of doing some thing and the suggestions, advices are provided to you. The guidance is mostly provided to students who seek the advice for the academics matters. The teachers, parents, professors, elders, senior official are the best source of guidance. Who can take counseling? Everyone and anyone. We face issues in our lives on daily basis, sometimes it is beyond our tolerance level. So, what to do? Many questions arrive in our mind when we face any problem, like - Do I talk to my parents? Won’t they be tensed? Will they understand? I can’t talk to my spouse, he/she always backfire me? The grief of losing my loved one is still there, how can I overcome? The questions are more to give horror, but the best solution is to talk to a professional to help you. Are you ready?
